Office 2003 and earlier needs an update in order to open documents created using Office 2007.  This includes documents ending in .docx, .xlsx and pptx.

Fortunately, Microsoft has come out with the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats.

Either save the file and then run it or just run it from there.
