Right-click on the desktop, where there are no icons.
Choose Properties from the pop-up menu.
Click on the Screen Saver tab.
Drop down the arrow on the Screen Saver name box and select "None" (the first in the list).
You can re-enable your screen saver using this procedure and selecting your preferred screen saver name from the list.
Many products that are referred to as screen savers are not really screen savers. They are programs that display pictures, and some even play sounds. These programs use computer resources, and they often access the hard disk, sometimes even writing to disk.
These programs will interfere with the operation of Disk Defragmenter, causing it to continually re-start the defragmentation process.
The safest screen saver is "Blank Screen". This will not interfere with Disk Defragmenter.
Ill behaved, picture flashing, sound blaring, resource hogging resource wasters should be boycotted.
