I recommend that you have a central location for all files that you download
from the internet. Here are some good reasons:
- This makes it easy to categorize and find downloaded files
- Saving files to this location allows you to scan the Download folder for
viruses in one step.
- You will always know that the files contained here were downloaded.
- You will always know where to find files you have downloaded.
Follow these steps when you are prompted to download a file from the
internet:
- Choose Save this file to disk.
- Drop down the Save In box and select the drive you want to save downloaded
files on (C:).
- If you don't already have a download folder, create it by clicking the new
folder button and enter "Download" for the name.
- Double-click on the Download folder.
- Create a new folder for the category of file you are saving. For
example, make a folder called PC Mobile Help for files downloaded from this
site.
- Double-click on the new folder.
- Press the Save button to download the file to disk.
- Immediately scan the Download folder for viruses. Include
"sub-folders" or "child folders". Note: files
downloaded in this manner cannot hurt your computer unless you run them
without scanning them first.
Shown below is an example of a typical Download folder on Drive C:

The download folder contains a folder for drivers. The Drivers folder
contains folders for different devices that I might download drivers for.
The Printers folder contains folders for different printer manufacturers, and so
on.
